David Jarvis

David Jarvis is currently Interim CEO of the Industrial Development Corporation. He occupies the role of Divisional Executive for Strategy and Corporate Affairs, a position he has held since April 2015. His division includes departments focusing on corporate strategy development and monitoring, research and information services, innovation and continuous improvement, marketing, stakeholder management and CSI. He is also executive lead for the implementation of the Presidency’s Social Employment Fund.

David started his career working for South Africa’s trade union movement with a focus on industrial policy and workplace organisation issues. His first job was as a researcher for the Trade Union Research Project in 1993. He joined the National Labour and Economic Development Institute (NALEDI) in 2000 as Head of its Sector Strategies unit. After a stint as acting executive director of NALEDI he moved to the department of Trade and Industry in 2005 working in the Director-General’s office and headed up the Economic Research and Policy Coordination unit in the department during 2008 and 2009. He joined the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) as Head of Research in 2009 and was later DBSA’s General Manager for Strategy. He left DBSA to join the IDC as Head of Corporate Strategy and Portfolio Management in 2013.
