Energy Council of South Africa seeking a Chief Executive Officer

The Energy Council of South Africa is a newly formed association intended to be the collective and unified voice of the energy sector in South Africa. It is a CEO-led initiative that brings together key stakeholders that have a significant presence and actively participate in the South African energy sector.

The Role

The Council is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will drive its purpose and deliver on its strategic goals as a leader in the South African energy sector.

The CEO will be the face of the Council and will be required to elevate the Council as a high profile, influential stakeholder within the energy sector. She/he will be responsible for leading the formation, overall management and strategic programmes of the Council, as well as membership a airs. The CEO will drive stakeholder and policy alignment to assist in addressing major issues in the energy sector for inclusive economic growth in South Africa.

The Candidate

The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in transformational leadership and strategic management. They must have deep energy sector experience and a track record of delivery, while demonstrating high standards of ethical leadership. With strategic leadership and operational execution management capability, the CEO will build and nurture the organisational culture, and live the Council’s values and behaviours.

About the Energy Council of South Africa

The Council was launched in November 2021 by founding members from across the energy value chain, which include Anglo American Platinum, the Central Energy Fund (CEF), Exxaro, Eskom, the IDC, naamsa, Sasol and TotalEnergies South Africa. Its purpose is to enable a thriving and sustainable energy sector.

The Council’s strategic goals are as follows:

  • Common South Africa Vision: A common vision for the energy sector
  • National Energy Strategy: A stakeholder-aligned national energy strategy with optimal pathways to grow the South African economy
  • Enabling Policies: Enabling policies and a supportive operating environment
  • Attract investment to drive industrialization, localisation and job creation

 

The Energy Council of South Africa will collaborate across industries in a multi-stakeholder manner to create an inclusive and transformed energy sector.
